Serenitas Mental Health Services

Service Description

This group is both a psychoeducation and process group which allows individuals to learn the Disease Model of Addiction and the ways in which their addiction affects the brain and ultimately their lives. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) explains addiction as “characterized by inability to consistently abstain, impairment in behavioral control, craving, diminished recognition of significant problems with one’s behaviors and interpersonal relationships, and a dysfunctional emotional response”. Education is key to overcoming addiction. We have tailored groups as well as individual therapy to support those struggling with their change process. By teaching: - Disease Model of Addiction and the brain - Stages of Change - Thinking errors - Window of Tolerance and arousal zones - Emotional regulation skills We also support families of those dealing with addiction through education and Individual and Family Psychotherapy services. Always remember as you help your loved one through their recovery: - You CAN’T cure their addiction - You didn’t cause it, so you CAN’T change it. AND - You CAN communicate your feelings; after all you are still being affected. - You CAN always chose to support your loved one in their recovery.
